Elizabeth RAMSAY Obituary

RAMSAY, Elizabeth (Liz). 23 October 1952 - 13 October 2025 Devoted and much loved wife of James Barnes (Jim). Liz was Jim's tower of strength. Dear sister-in-law of Annie. Liz did so much in her life, with great panache. She was a maker, a gardener, a piano player, a teacher, a collector and a great hostess with a wicked sense of humour. Indefatigable, and with a strong sense of social justice, Liz never stopped caring about other people. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife and friend.

I was fortunate to come to know Liz and Jim over the past year as their next door neighbour. In the short time I knew Liz, I could tell she lived a full life and she had a wicked sense of humour. Our flat of 6 loved to pop over for a drink and a laugh with Liz and Jim from time-to-time, hearing about past neighbourhood happenings and their array of adventures in NZ and abroad - inspiring me to make the most of every minute. One special memory was sharing a glass of Christmas bubbles with Liz and Jim in Dec 2024 (see pic) where we got to enjoy their garden which Liz took great pride in. We hope to keep a few plants from the garden and we'll be enjoying a drink in honour of Liz's birthday this week. Sending our love to Jim and all those that knew Liz.

All my love to Jim, and the many friends who loved Liz and those who attended the soirees that they hosted while Liz was around. Liz was a great friend, a wonderful gardener art lover and enjoyer of life. I´ll miss her, and I´m always grateful for her kindness. And sorry about the honeysuckle.

Our most sincere condolences to Jim and their families on such a great loss to you all. Liz and Jim have been frequent members of the Grey Lynn Returned Services Club and Liz will be missed by all that knew her.RIP Liz and we will watch over Jim for you.
