Elaine and I have been mates since the early 1950's and as young giggly girls we shared all our secrets and experiences.
Our first hair perm (a total disaster, frizzy frizzy hair!), our school work, our sports failures and achievements, our dislikes and likes, so over all those formative years at Owairaka Primary, Wesley Intermediate and Avondale College we were mostly inseparable.
Elaine was a loyal and loving friend and at school she collected "Lame Ducks", maybe I was her worst "Lame Duck" but she never let on!
I would call her "Mother Duck" as she poked yet another friendless girl into our circle.
We compared notes on our teenage traumas, job hunting and eventually marriage and motherhood.
Elaine was always the person to be relied on to help in an emergency, or with a new baby, cooking disaster or sick child. Her loyalty to her friends and family was unconditional and I so admired her for that. This is why it is so devastating for me to be unable to attend her service due to travel restrictions. I am there in spirit however, singing my heart out and remembering our old choir days, our dancing days, our many adventures, laughter and happy times.
My sincere condolences to all the family as I share your loss and heartache. Elaine will be reunited now with her beloved Mum and smiling Wally.
RIP my friend,
Love Lorraine

I worked with Elaine for a number of years at Green Lane. Elaine was such a kind, lovely person to work with. I am sorry I am unable to attend her funeral on Monday, but please accept my condolences, I know she will be sadly missed.

Sad to hear of the loss of a wonderful friend, Mum, Nana and Great Grandma. A lovely neighbour & treasured friend to the Blake family over many a years. Mrs Evans I thank you for keeping in touch with me over the years. Will miss our lengthy chats. You always seemed to know when I needed a call and was always there to listen. You leave this world with your head held high while we bend our heads with great respect. Rest in Peace. Diane
