Mr Paapu,
The coolest teacher there was during my time at Jean Batten back in the early 90's.
So many awesome memories of a teacher who will never be forgotten.
The teacher who allowed us in his class during lunch to play on the computer. So long as your quiet so the duty teacher and other kids don't hear' he said as he left. He would return after lunch telling us all the yummy things he ate in the staff room whilst rubbing his belly. Before telling us to hurry up and get to class.
The best guitarist there was in the school (sorry mr koi) who was happy to give us guitar lessons after school when we asked. Something I didn't commit to, probably much to your relief. How you put up with me during each lesson I do not know.
A teacher who would joke with us and have us on till you cracked up laughing, giving it away. A laugh everyone knew and could often hear before they saw you.
You never forgot the good ones. The few times I'd visit the school to see mum over the years, you greeted me with a hug and chat.
I was saddened to hear of your illness and passing. May you rest easy Mr Paapu.
Much love to the Paapu Whanau and Jean Batten School staff. I'm sorry but not sorry to say Mr Paapu was the best!
