Such a great loss and far too soon. Doug taught me a great deal about Brewing in general and brewing microbiology in particular. We travelled a lot together and had many pleasant hours discussing beer and brewing...usually with a beer in hand. He was a great friend and colleague whose enthusiasm for and knowledge of, the industry were unrivalled and his innovation inspiring. My condolences to the Banks family but especially to Jim who has lost so much. Rest In Peace Doug, Kia Kaha.

Doug's knowledge and passion for brewing was recognised world wide. For me he was a great teacher and colleague who I could always rely on for advice. I fondly remember discussing brewing issues with Doug in the old part of Leiden which he loved. He will be missed.

I'll always remember the times when Doug was out working with me in Timaru and Greymouth breweries. Doug loved to be on-site and dive into things with the brewery staff. Great desire to share his insights. Great desire to have fun brewing great beers. The brewing world was lucky to have Doug within our ranks. Cheers, Keith Armstrong

Always looked forward to seeing Doug at family get togethers...talking horse racing and sampling the tasty new brew he and Jim would produce! Doug will be sadly missed.

So saddened to read of Doug's passing so soon after I met you Jim at the cafe a few months ago. Although we worked in different parts of DB, the Banks Brothers were legendary in the brewing industry and some of those beer launches were legendary! Our paths didn't cross frequently in the corridors of power! - but Doug was always a gentleman and I appreciated any dealings I had with him and you Jim. Condolences to you Jim and the wider Banks Family. Glenys Ogg.

A firm friend and supporter of the NZ Hop industry and although I am now retired, I am deeply shocked. But then I haven't seen Doug for a while now.

BANKS, Douglas John (Doug). Much respected and admired colleague for 45 years, and one of the greats of New Zealand brewing. Remembered for his willingness to share his immense knowledge, his patience, his stories, and his mentorship. A true pioneer and innovator. Rest easy, our friend. From the team at DB Breweries.'
