Doreen HAWTHORNE Obituary

HAWTHORNE, Doreen Ailsa (nee McKay). 5 March 1926 to 13 June 2018 Doreen's family and friends wish to celebrate her amazing 92 years and farewell her for now. Without our mum the world will have a lot less Love but Heaven will have another Angel. William, Michael, Nigel, Ailsa (Elly) and Robert, her loving children and their spouses, along with Joy and Peter wish to invite you to a service to honour Doreen at the Morrinsville Baptist Church, 56 Moorhouse Street Morrinsville on Monday the 18th of June at 12.45 pm. Doreen delighted in and was blessed with adoring Grand-children (and their spouses) Amy, Rebecca, Virginia, Jason, Anna, Jay, Lisa, Ellana, Ella and Ben, Michael, Daniel and Rachel and the extended families including 30 great Grandchildren. Doreen grew up in Auckland but trained as a Registered Nurse at Waikato Hospital, graduating in 1947. She helped transport the last Jewish refugees from communist China to the newly created Israel in 1950. She worked in the UK and Northern Ireland where she met the love of her life William Hawthorne, who had already secured a farming job in NZ. Over the following 30 years they farmed throughout the Waikato, raising their large family and contributing to various communities. William passed away in 1989 and Doreen moved to Morrinsville to be close to family and friends. She was an active and well loved member of the local Baptist church. The family would like to thank Doreen's caregivers over the last few years, the medical staff at Waikato Hospital and especially for the care and support over recent weeks from staff at the Rhoda Reid Hospital in Morrinsville.

Just where does one start??
Doreen will be greatly missed by all who knew her. BUT especially by her D.I.G.
(Disciples in groups) Morrinsville Baptist Church - Bible study ladies group.
We have had the pleasure and privilege of knowing this wonderful woman of God.
Doreen has been both an encourager and a true friend to our group. Often going out of her way to help in a million ways whenever asked.
It is a certainty and a comfort to know that Doreen has become a Heavenly Angel after being an Earthly Angel for so long.
Our sympathy goes out to all her family, both here and over seas.
God's blessings to all who knew Doreen.
