HAYWARD, Donald Ewart (Don). Formerly of Logan Campbell Retirement Village. Passed away peacefully on 20th June 2023 aged 92. Dearly loved husband of the late Dorothy Hayward and beloved friend of Marie Smith. Brother-in-law of the late Mavis and Jim, and of John and Kay. Much loved uncle of Robert (deceased) and Pauline, Philip and Robyn (deceased), Stephen and Denise, Timothy and Mizuho, and Jane and Matt. Awesome great uncle of James, Hunt, Hayden, Erika, Ryan, Samuel, and Hannah. Loved cousin of Lynette, Graeme, Patricia, David, and Miles. At Don's request a private cremation has been held. Don was an avid bridge-player, genealogist, and wine aficionado. An informal celebration of Don's life will be held at St John's Lounge, Purewa Cemetery, 100 St Johns Road, Meadowbank, at 2pm Friday 7th July.

I will miss Dons cheery laugh and easy company at Christmas gatherings with some of his extended whanau. I too saw him as a close Uncle. We had occasion to help him out recently as he had more health challenges, and he always displayed his resilient trademark humour throughout. Fare thee well, Don

More a much respected and loved "uncle" than a "half-cousin once-removed", our kaumatua Don will be remembered for his kindness and devotion to family, as well as his keen wit, fortitude and humour. He came to us late in life as a result of his work on the whakapapa of our whanau, but the connection was strong, we will miss him sorely. Aroha
