Dennis HALL Obituary

HALL, Dennis (Rocky). 24 October 1944 - 21 April 2025 Life Member of Midway Surf Life Saving Club and Life Member of Surf Life Saving NZ Rocky Hall passed away peacefully on the 21st April. In true words and echoed by many club members, "Midway has lost a legend". Rocky's strong bond with Midway went further than the club itself, it was his connection and strong bond with the thousands of Midway members and members from other clubs throughout the country that will never be forgotten. He mentored hundreds of members through their lifeguard award, was the unofficial Midway learn to ski "Head Coach" and he spent hours and hours sitting on the Midway dunes educating our members about Ekman's Drift, but what we'll remember most is Rocky's love of Surf Life Saving and the bond he had with those involved. Rock, rest easy our friend. Your Midway family have got it from here. Evans Funeral Service Ltd FDANZ www.evansfuneral.co.nz

My heartfelt condolences to Jude and family. Tom would want me to say a few words. Rocky took the boat out to the first buoy, with Tom´s sons, back in 2017 to cast his ashes at his beloved Midway. Tom admired and respected Rocky over many years and on Tom´s last visit to Gisborne in 2016, arranged his "departure" with Rocky. We are forever grateful to Rocky for making this possible.
Forever an Icon and Legend in Gisborne and NZ surf lifesaving.
Bon Voyage Rocky
Jules and the late Tom Harris

Sincere condolences to Jude and family.I was Rocky's coach at HSOB 70,71,a very dedicated enthusiastic student of the game, who always gave it his all.I am so glad now that I was able to spend some time with him at Te Wiremu House when I came down for the HSOB centenial celabrations last month chatting to him of old times.Rocky's contribution in time, labour and generosity to the building of the new clubhouse in 71 was considerable as was with other key members of the club and his teamates of that Senior Team.It is amazing to think that the Clubhouse was virtually built by voluntary labour. Thanks for the memories.Rest in peace.God Bless Chas.
