I was in Dawson's English class at Pakuranga College. The teacher often used to choose Dawson and I to recite passages to the class. These are fond memories I have of him although I never knew him closely.

I was surprised to know Dawson passed away.
My name is Isao Miki.
I am old enough and I was organizing myself and remembered Dawson. When I was active, I also worked as a textile company at Teijin Limited. I remember running with him in the morning when he went on a business trip to Suzukura Textile Co., Ltd. in Niigata. He liked running. I also went to his house in New Zealand. He took me to the hot springs.

Dear Dawson,
Long time no see.
It's been over 30 and 40 years since I last met you.
My name is MIKI.
Do you remember me?
At that time you came to Suzukura Textile in Tochio, Niigata, Japan.
I was working for Teijin LTD. At that time.
You ran together with me in the morning in Tochio.
I also went to Auckland.
You took me to a hot spring.
I can't go abroad because of the corona problem now,
I want to go to New Zealand again.

Our thoughts are with Val and family. There are no words to express our appreciation of the friendship of Dear Daws. Always a great mate whether helping to lay a drive way or at the sink helping with the dishes, to sharing wisdom or time for a beer, a dive for a crayfish or a day on the water. A self made man always willing to lend a hand. A wonderful Godfather to our daughter Sharlan. A kind heart, a story to tell, a laugh to share. We will always treasure the happy memories.
