Dawn HUTSON Obituary

HUTSON, Dawn. On September 8th, Dawn passed away peacefully in her 77th year, after a short illness. Best friend and treasured wife of Andy for 56 years. Beloved sister and sister-in-law of Fiona and Malcolm Congdon. Much loved Aunty of Nick and Amanda and their extended families. Special sister-in-law and aunty to all of Andy's family in Scotland. 'Mum' to her adored doggies, Roddy and Donny. Dawn lived life with zest and enthusiasm. An avid fan of motor racing, soccer, English literature, Freddie Mercury, the Royal Family and wine to name a few. She supported many charities and organisations and worked endlessly for the local Waiuku Lions club before she came ill. She had travelled extensively and lived in London for several years. After returning from London she completed her English degree, her Librarian qualifications and worked at NZ Steel until she retired several years ago. Her unexpected journey was faced with dignity and courage with Andy by her side. At peace now Dawn, you will be missed by so many, especially your incredible knowledge and humour. As per Dawn's wishes a private cremation will be held. Any communications please send to Andy at P.O. Box 17, Waiuku

We all have very happy memories of Dawn's visits to Scotland with Dee and her beloved Andy. We loved her love of Scotland and her zest for life. We feel very fortunate to have had so many happy memories of numerous trips to Ayrshire and visits with us to Skye, Inverness, The Borders and Edinburgh.

Not to forget Stan and I's New Zealand adventures. How fortunate we have been to spend very cherished and happy times with Dawn and Andy on our two trips to New Zealand where we received their boundless kindness, generosity, hospitality and friendship.

Cheers Dawn! Thank you for all the special times.

Very much love, Nina and Family, Ayrshire

I've known Dawn for many years working at NZ Steel. We became good friends when we retired and joined U3A to find new interests. I'll never forget our amazing holiday in India attending the U3A World Conference - our sense of humour was an essential survival tool! Dawn was soon elected president of Franklin U3A and roped me in as her vice-president.
She always offered to take me to and from the airport for my travels, despite her busy volunteering schedule. I'm so pleased she and Andy ventured over the bridge to visit my new home just a few months ago. I really admire her courage - always positive and never complaining.

It's always a shock to hear a valued friend has passed. I worked with Dawn for many years. Dawn was held in the highest regard, she commanded respect and admiration in everything she did. A warm and caring lady she was a valued colleague and good friend. She loved to talk about shared hobbies and interests, and I always looked forward to her coming into the office and pulling up a chair. A lady of the highest principals, she took no nonsense, but always gave you her best advise. I remember discussing with her who would look after us in our dotage, as we both had no children, and fretted about what would happen if we reached old age alone. She has won that battle.
Condolences to Andy, and family. We only have memories of her now, but they will remain strong, and bring pleasure and reflection to all that knew her.

So sorry to hear of Dawn's passing. She was always the "rock" of the HR dept. She helped me survive my 11 years there. Always in our thoughts, ran into her and Andy a few time since, it was always a joy to see them. Will always miss her and her advice!
