I knew and worked with David in the Department of Education, and later in MoE, in Wellington. I counted him as both colleague and friend.
David was marked out from the crowd by his expertise and thoughtfulness in his work on history curriculum matters, his easy manner when working with others, and his deep integrity. You knew where he stood.
He and I worked together on contract to the MoE in 1999-2000, and he was a genial and helpful companion.
Outside work, David and Lynette were a formidable and united team, who were in solid agreement about their priorities of faith and family.
We lost contact with one another after their move to Auckland, and I was saddened to learn of David's unexpected death.
May you rest in peace, faithful servant, and be raised in glory.

I'm grateful that I got the chance to get to know David (and Lynette) after moving back to Auckland from Canberra during the last two years of my PhD studies and working for the University of Auckland as a Research Fellow.
I greatly appreciated David's friendship and fellowship at St. George's church in Epsom between 2017 and 2019. When I was looking for work after I'd finished my PhD and my research fellowship in 2019, David encouraged me in looking for satisfying, purposeful work.
Both David and Lynette kept me in prayer throughout those months when I was uncertain about what the future held.
I also appreciated David's wisdom, wit and life experience.
In the end, I found a job in the public service and moved to Wellington. David and Lynette put me in touch with people who could help me with settling in to Wellington. I haven't spoken to David much since then. However, I've remembered those times with gratefulness, and the positive impact David had.
I'm deeply saddened to hear that David passed away unexpectedly. But I trust that he has been welcomed by our loving Lord, Jesus Christ, and has found joy and rest in his company.
Blessings to Lynette and all the Wood family.

I am so thankful to God for the influence David had on my life, first as my history teacher and rugby coach at Westlake Boys High School, and later as a colleague on the staff of Selwyn College. He was a person of such grace and humility, a great encourager, and a wonderful mentor in the faith. My condolences to Lynette and the family.

David was a great role model in the way that he lived life. Along with Lynette, we will always value his faithful and prayerful support, his wise advice and his encouragement of us particularly with regards to our roles in education. David and Lynette were an excellent team and the hospitality they extended to our son will always be appreciated and treasured. Our sincere sympathy to Lynette and family.

I will always remember David as a man of vim and vigour, encouragement and enthusiasm, fun and faithfulness; a lovely family man who relished life and enjoyed people. What a sad and irreplaceable loss for you all. My heart goes out to you. I know that amidst the wrench of separation, and the tears and sadness, there will also be deep and enduring gratitude for what you have shared and meant to one another. As always, you and dear David continue to be united in Christ. With sincere love and sympathy to all David's family from Catherine McKinlay
