David was interested in his Ayrshire ancestry...this seems apt :
" Gude night, and joy be wi ye all, your harmless mirth has cheered my heart, may life's fell blasts oot oer ye blaw, in sorrow may ye never part. My spirit lives, but strength is gone, the mountain fires now blaze in vain. Remember, sons, the deeds I've done, and in your deeds I'll live again."

I am so sorry we missed David's funeral. We had another one at 11am which Bill was celebrant for. But We didn't know David had passed until after his sendoff was over. Our sympathy and love to the family.

I have lived in Mosgiel since 1966. I got to know David through our membership of NZAP. We had many conversations over the years- mainly me talking- he liked my Scottish accent!
He was a good man and I´ll miss his presence.
I can´t travel to farewell him, but tonight I´ll pour a wee half and have it in his memory.
I´ll also have you in mind throughout the days ahead.
With my condolences and holding him in mind.

I remember David with a great much fondness and gratitude. He really was a gentle-man. He was always willing to help out in practical ways, and often went out of his way to do so. I was grateful for David´s support on committee work, and more importantly his cheer. I salute his courage .
My condolences to his family and loved ones.

Sincere sympathy to Bryce and the Thomson families in their loss of a very fine man. David, with his great abilities and caring supportive nature, contributed so much to the many communities in which he worked. I remember David as an early leader at Saint Kentigern where he was Head Prefect and Dux in 1957, and a valued colleague and friend in our early teaching careers. Fides Servanda Est.

God speed David. A lovely man who I only met at the annual NZAP conferences but who was unfailingly warm, thoughtful, generous and genuinely humble, without pretensions. A rare person.

David was the loveliest man who was so supportive of the The Eden park branch of the Labour Party. When we catered for the lunches on election days and the famous Mt Albert Debate each year, he was always around helping make the sandwiches , carrying stuff, door knocking, and generally keeping our team effort on track. Robyn and I worked and socialised with David through the Mt Albert Labour Party for many years. He was involved with us in the Eden Park branch of the Labour Party. We enjoyed his company and appreciated his commitment to labour values. He was a treasured partner in our efforts to advance labour. He was always positive and contributed greatly to the branch.

My deepest sympathies to all David´s family. Dave was a staunch member of the Mt Albert Labour Party, and a wonderful supporter to me during my decades as local Labour candidate and MP. I am very grateful for all the support he gave to me and Labour overall. RIP, Dave.
