Having lived in Australia since 2017 I have only recently become aware of David's passing. During my time as GRNZ Stipendiary Steward for Auckland and Waikato greyhound racing I came to know the Schofield family very well and visited their property several times when completing the standard kennel inspections required under the rules. Dennis, Pam and David were always very professional in their kennel management and approach resulting in a deserved high level of success.
I generally found David to be a good trainer albeit needing some guidance from time to time but from my observations he always put the welfare of the greyhounds in his care first and over-time we earned respect and trust for each other which developed into a good working relationship.
I am saddened that David is no longer with us and I extend my sincere deepest sympathy to Dennis and Pam who have contributed so much to the sport of greyhound racing in NZ and I hope that they can enjoy their retirement from the sport in every way possible. Kind regards Graeme Bennett

Thoughts to you Dennis and Pam. Top bloke and the only punter who challenged me as the worst, yet he knew dogs so well and enjoyed my visits to Rangiriri and my first ever South Island trip to the NZ Oaks in 2002 driving the old wagon whilst waves and seals run riot on SH1 due to the storm.
RIP David and much love to the family.

Saddened to hear the passing of David, and condolences to all family and friends, he will be missed. I found David to be an engaging, honest and loyal bloke and when I look back at time spent with him at the track, or on the farm, I remember some of my most enjoyable moments. A gifted greyhound conditioner and a great mate, Rest in Peace Schoey.

Rest in Peace David, far too early indeed. You were a great kid to have as a neighbor, full of energy and positivity. Thanks for the birthday invitations even though I was two years younger and the raids on the crab apple tree and the football games in the back yard. My condolences to all your loved ones. I hope your spirit and enthusiasm live on through all those you knew and loved. A special thought for Pam and Denis and Anna, for raising and being a brother to such a great guy. All my respects and thoughts, Sean McFlynn
