David will be remembered as the developer of our beautiful sanctuary. He was always someone we could work with. We express our condolences and sympathy to his family and friends.

To the man who loved the commerce and the barter that came with it.
David-a man whose joy came not only from creating our Sanctuary, but from the art and spirit of the deal itself. We first met him while negotiating for our first piece of land in the Sanctuary at Mangawhai, and it didn´t take long to see how much he relished the back-and-forth: the friendly challenge, the shared smiles, the satisfaction of a fair trade made between people.
For some time, we had been talking with David about one of his last available sections. After many conversations-and upon hearing of his illness-he invited my wife and me to his home for what he called "one last deal." Even then, he wanted to stand in the space where he felt most himself. We bartered, we shared stories, and we sealed the agreement with a whisky and a handshake. He was happy that day-content, present, and entirely in his element.
We will miss you, David. Thank you for everything you have done for our whanau, and for the Sanctuary you built that will hold your legacy for generations to come.

Very sad to hear of David´s passing, I felt like he would live forever. We bought a section of David & enjoyed the negotiation process a lot! But he did more than that, he really helped, mentored & supported us in starting Miniwhais in the Sanctuary. We can´t be there on Friday, so we extend our condolences from Mangawhai. X

David was my boss for my first job at Holm Shipping & Travel and then again at Society Fashions. He certainly made work fun! So lovely to know that 60 years on he was still a 'rascal'.

To Pam and family,
On behalf of Joyce Hudson (deceased 2022) who cherished her time working for David at Nathan Fashions, we wanted to express our condolences and share a memory. Mum often spoke fondly of David and those early years, filled with fun and friendships. Her time at Nathan Fashions was truly special, and she always valued the relationships she built there.
With sympathy, Joyce´s daughter Julie

Fond memories of happy days gone by; our time growing up in the rag trade; fun times in Sleepy Hollow with Pam and family way back when; great days out on the water - never-to-be-forgotten years. A generous man to us and others in tough times. Always fondly remembered.

David was a man very generous with his time and advice (an all round good guy) who, at the end of the day only wanted the simple things life was able to provide - a fresh fish from the ocean and a nice wine from the cellar, to be shared with a friend over a good hearty laugh.

Such a glorious, generous and abundant man, our times with the Nathan family will always be cherished and the legends will live on. Godspeed David.
