I worked with David for over 20 years, but I class myself first his friend and second his workmate. He was an excellent tradesman, a veritable font of knowledge and the youngsters naturally gravitated toward him as he was that rare thing, a teacher as well, more than willing to pass on what he knew. You could not thank him though, all he would say is "don't thank me Dad, thank the old b...... who taught me". He was ever happy in his work, always humming or singing some song or other as he toiled away. One particular episode sticks in my mind and I only relate it to show that he could laugh at himself too. He was wandering around, obviously looking for something and getting quite irate as well, when asked what he was looking for he said that some b...... had taken his safety glasses. Well, everyone burst into laughter, because the missing glasses were perched on top of his head. If you wanted to get a wry smile out of him all you had to say was "Where's your glasses Dave". I regret losing contact with him after he left Graysons', always promising to call tomorrow, but as you know tomorrow never comes. My sincere sympathies to Pat and his family, he may be gone but never forgotten. Go well Jock.
