Dave Irvine #66 Stockcar.
March 24, 2016
One of my fondest memories of Dave Irvine was back in 1968 - I was driving through Huntly in my little 100 E. Anglia on my way to wherever I was Going at that time.. And as I turned the bend at the southern end of Huntly (Heading towards Hamilton.. ) I saw Dave Irvines #66 Stockcar parked outside Dave Irvines Panelbeating Shop - So I pulled over and went into the panel shop. Where I met Dave and talked with Dave.. Dave told me the car was built out of a Bedford truck chassis - and how he had strengthened it with box section steel etc- Dave told me of the Vauxhall Cresta Motor.. etc.. and Dave really took the time out to tell me of the ins and outs about this car.. (Its during these times that one would wish to have a pen and paper or a tape recorder to document it all - But it didn't happen and over time one cannot remember everything...) .. But I do remember Meeting and Talking with Dave. And another time I met his brother who was racing at Waikaraka Park who told me all about the cow catcher bumpers on his green Stock Car.. So I got to meet two of the Irvine brothers --
