As a member of his English Department team for many years, I remember David as a positive, supportive and encouraging HOD at Mangere College. An excellent example of the MC motto 'Seek the Heights'. May he rest in peace. My sincere condolences to family and friends.

Great memories of my childhood football being in the team coached by Davids Dad, and playing for East Coast Bays. Same class as David at Murray´s Bay Primary, Intermediate and Rangitoto College. Very sad to hear he has passed at such a young age. My sincere condolences to the families.

Very sad news to learn of your passing Mr Hodge, the best English teacher I ever experienced at Mangere College during 1984-1986 by far. Just like Mr Lincoln, Mr Thwaites and Mr White in terms of passion for the subject, commitment to learning and absolute dedication to all your students. You introduced us to T S Eliot who remains my favourite poet to this day with Preludes, The Wasteland and J Alfred Prufrock. You also prepared those of us who carried on with studies for university, always going to extra mile to deal with sometimes cantankerous, challenging and difficult students, as some of us could be from time to time. You leave a proud legacy of thousands of former students who fortunate to receive your wisdom, insight, enthusiasm and consistent good humour. Nga mihi aroha ki tona whanau.

My favourite teacher while at Mangere College and our paths have crossed a few times since leaving. It was always a pleasure catching up with you, reminiscing and getting updates on your family that you loved so much.
You made a difference to so many young lives throughout your career in education. Your legacy also lives on in the many teachers you mentored and supported.
My sincere condolences to your family.
Rest in peace Mr Hodge.

David was the best headteacher I ever worked for, from the first day he interviewed me and took me on a tour of his school I knew he was an incredible, inspirational educator. I loved nothing more than listening to his motivational assemblies. Under his leadership he definitely made me the best teacher I could have been. When I returned to the UK he still stayed in touch and continued to mentor me in my progression in education. He would always give me advice and his time when I needed it. I will never forget his kindness and I offer my deepest condolences to his family. The world has lost one of the most wonderful teachers and education leaders.

You were more than just a Principal when I attended Tamaki College, you were a friend who listened to my cries when I thought all was for nothing. Life was hard at home but when you stopped me in the hall asking if everything was okay, I paused and said "I'm alguds" you replied with "never give up, keep your head up" I stand PROUD!
When we caught up again at a Rugby game where my son was playing Rangitoto College I called out to you and ran for a Hug and we chatted about times changing and what am I doing.... you don't realise only a hand full of people placed me where I am today and you "SIR" were one of them!
Never will I forget you and your legacy of all that you set out to achieve will continue through me and my children.
NOT A goodbye SIR but a SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE!
Bless your family until you all REUNITE AGAIN!

Huge condolences to your family and loved ones at this sad time David. It feels like a lifetime ago now, but I really appreciated the belief you had in those that you led to step outside of our comfort zones and make take those brave steps in moving forward. That, and your tenacity is what I will remember. Rest In Peace. Arohanui, Hinerau x
