David FRIEDLANDER Obituary

FRIEDLANDER, David. Auckland Grammar School mourns the loss of 25-year Master, David Friedlander. As well as being a Grammar Master, he was a proud Old Boy - class of '64. David taught at Herschel School in Cape Town and Jeppe Boys' High School in Johannesburg before becoming a Grammar Master in 1988. David saw thousands of young men pass through our gates and enjoyed being able to help shape their lives while contributing to the life of Auckland Grammar School over a 27-year period. The Auckland Grammar School Board of Trustees joins the staff in expressing condolences to his partner, Sonja and the Friedlander family. We have appreciated being part of David's life. A commemorative Service celebrating David's life will be held at Auckland Grammar School, in the Old Boys' Pavilion on Monday 25 May at 4.30pm.

I send you all my sympathy for you by his passing away.
I will remember David as a real gentleman for me and for many others.
I will never forget what he ment for me when I arrived at Auckland Grammar School in February 1990. He was my tutor, he was my guide. Beside the scholastical side, we have spent many afternoons, evenings and week-ends together. His tolerance in discussions was amazing. He has also been very hospitable to me.
For all his time that he spent with me, his witty conversations, his humor, his knowledge, his professionalism as a teacher, his advice, his friendship with you Sonya and with many other people, I will be forever grateful.

FRIEDLANDER, David. You tread so lightly on our planet yet made an earthquake of change. You are truly a good kind man David. Missing your wit, brilliant mind, rebellious spirit and hugely generous heart. Rest in peace. Love Sonja, Izzy, Romeo and Vito.
