David Lawrence BURNELL

David BURNELL Obituary

BURNELL, David Lawrence (Dave). On Friday 24th January 2025, David suddenly passed aged 72, doing what he loved with family. Dearly loved father of Timothy, Cameron and Michael, and father-in-law of Katherine, Sara, Michelle and Christie. Adored Poppa of Aurora and Arlo, Sophia and Lily, Wolfe, Toby, Stanley and Vincent. Brother of Bill and Ian (both deceased) and survived by his sister Carol. Cheer of the High Council, a respected teacher to many, and a friend to many more. A celebration of David's life will be held at the Celtic Barn, 39 The Centre, Waipu at 2pm on Saturday 1st of February. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Relay for Life. Dave was a so very generous with his time for the students of Otamatea High School and especially so for the years of Relay for Life student teams he joined on the track walking through the hours and chatting wit all. Dave's proud tears as he walked the survivor's lap to the Otamatea students haka is etched in my memory. Rest well Dave.

I meet Dave through Otamatea High School. He was a lovely down to earth soul. A gentleman who you could just walk up to and have a great conversation, with lots of laughs. He will be dearly missed! RIP Dave x

Dave was always wonderful with his students and a keen advocate for fairness in education. He worked successfully in both primary and secondary schools.
