SCHOLZ
Darlene Ann (nee Bates) Scholz passed away peacefully on July 19, 2016 at the age of 67, with her loving husband Brian at her side in the Sundre Hospital after a brief term of cancer.
Darlene was born to Cester and Eleanor May Bates on April 21, 1949 in Stettler. She was the 3rd child of a family of 4. Over the years, the Bates family moved to Calgary where Darlene attended and graduated from Ernest High School. At the age of 20, Darlene married and became a foster parent to numerous children which numbered over 100. In 1979, Michael at the age of 6 months, came to live in Darlene's care in Ogden. Three months later Michael's sister Laureen, at the age of 5 years, arrived as well. In 1983, Darlene officially became a mother to Michael and Laureen and they have been a family ever since. In 2002, Darlene married Brian Scholz and at that time, her family grew more with the addition of Brian's children, Dallas and Jason. Brian and Darlene have lived since the time of their marriage at Eagle Hill. Darlene loved reading, puzzles, her computer and computer fish. She also loved to watch the squirrels and birds feed outside of her kitchen window. Darlene enjoyed being in the company of her family and friends and she especially enjoyed Friday Night Lights at Doug and Linda's. Darlene is predeceased by her parents Cester and Eleanor Bates; brother Harvey Bates; sister in law Terry Bates and granddaughter Jaylene; in laws Marie and Red Gilmore. She leaves to mourn her loving husband Brian Scholz; daughter Laureen Conn (Dan Tooth); son Michael Hicks; stepchildren Dallas (Dan) Groom, Jason (Naomi) Scholz; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; 2 sisters as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many, many friends. She will dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Graveside services were held on Friday July 22, 2016 at the Eagle Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements. 403-507-8610
