I am deeply saddened by the loss of Daniel, a remarkable colleague and mentor in our Chemistry department. Beyond his vast knowledge and generosity with resources, I admired his passion for football. It's not often you find someone as talented in the laboratory as they are on the football pitch. His dedication not only to his research but also to coaching and managing football teams showed the breadth of his talents and interests.

Many of us, including the students he influenced, will miss the unique blend of expertise and enthusiasm he brought to both worlds. It's a testament to his legacy that he touched so many lives, both in the field of science and in the realm of sports.

During this difficult time, my thoughts are with you and all who knew him. May we cherish the memories and lessons Daniel shared with us.

Warm regards,

Vijay

Mr Aliaga was my chemistry teacher and football coach for the past 2 years. In the classroom he made sure he taught us to the best of his ability and helped us learn as much as he possibly could. Although we may not have been the best class at times, he always taught us with a content attitude despite the struggles he was going through. On the football pitch, he helped me personally by instructing me and constructively criticising my gameplay which helped me improve and get into a top team. His love for the sport shone through with his many posters in his classroom of footballing legends and the glistening black adidas boots shining on the windowsill. I will always miss your jokes about going deaf after playing music for 30 years and you making me tell everyone about the tournaments we went too.

Rest easy sir, and condolences to your family.

My deepest condolences to Daniel and his family.

Hey bro, sorry to hear of your passing.

I knew Daniel from my school days at Auckland Grammar and if my memory serves me right, Auckland Normal Intermediate as well.

Daniel was definitely in my 7th Form Chemistry Class with Mr Hoskins. Daniel was a smart boy, a talented Soccer Player (1st 11), and from memory a proud Chilean.

Saw you at Uni a few times and remember chatting.

Haven't seen you in many years but remember you paying respect to me by attending my 21st Birthday with your friend Campbell (Auckland representative soccer player).

I remember meeting your family at a social in Morningside (fundraiser).

Mentioned your passing to Ivan and Vish (Grammar boys). They were shocked and saddened by your passing.

Lots of love bro. God Bless you, your family, and friends. Let God take care of you now . Catch you up bro.

Rest is peace Daniel, my condolences to the rest of the family and for those of you who loved him and knew him.

I was fortunate to know Dan growing up playing football in Auckland in my teenage years to my early 20s prior to moving to the UK. 1995-2005.
We shared the pitch on multiple occasions, me being a Counties man and Dan from Auckland, before moving across to Auckland rep football at u19 age group level, we fought many battles in the midfield and his skill and excellent touch shone through every time. I think it would be fair to say that most lads our age couldn't get near Dan on the football field.

He was brilliant, and it looks like he took that brilliance he had and shared it with others.

I wish his parents, wife and the rest of his family and friends the warmest sympathy.

Mr Aliaga was my Science teacher in 2022, he is a kind and very supportive teacher. I am regretful that I didn't thank him for teaching science and his knowledge continued to change my attitude towards two of my science options this year.

Mr Aliaga was my chemistry teacher during 2022 and part of 2023. He was incredibly knowledgeable, funny, kind and invested in each student he taught. Despite the burden he carried, he continued to offer his utmost effort to support and teach. I sincerely regret not thanking him more than I did, and my condolences go out to his family and friends. Let it be known that he was truly a caring, inspiring, honest and generous man.
