I was very sad to hear of Dan's passing earlier this year. As the G Squadron medic I served with Dan in Hereford over 20 years ago. He was welcoming, truly genuine, a very professional soldier and an all round great guy. We kept in touch after the Army and met up for coffee a few times when he came back to Hereford. My sincere condolences to his family. RIP Dan. You were one of the decent ones.

I had the pleasure to serve alongside Dan with the KOSB. Not easy being the only Englishman amongst 400 mad Scotsman but of the many challenges Dan along with a few others were welcoming, professional and friendly. Dan was a true character and someone you would never forget and always for all the right reasons. What a fine Memorial today to a fine man and soldier.
RIP my friend, your duty is now done.

I didn't know you as well as your (many) other friends, Dan, but I was impacted by your warmth, humour and authenticity. Despite being in your company only 6 or 7 times, to me you were a friend. One of those rare, quality people... a gem of a human being. I'm so sad you're gone, Dan. I will genuinely miss you and I will always cherish those memories and the person that you are.

Dan was an inspiration and hero to my father. In the short time I spent with him in New Zealand, his kindness and humour was ever-present. I hope you find your happiness Dan, thank you for everything and my condolences to all.

The first time I met Dan, it was his smile and the twinkle in the eyes that warmth me towards him. He will turn up to our house in Beijing, China spontaneously always with a bottle of wine. The kids enjoy spending time with Uncle Dan as Gavin always talk about him to the kids and they already knew him before they met him. The time spending with him and Kelly at New Zealand was one of our best holiday in our life. A wonderful man and we are devastated by this sad news... we lost a great and lovely man. Rest in peace.

I´ll miss you buddy. You were my hero growing up and my friend in later life. You served your country selflessly and with distinction. You will be missed more than you can possibly have suspected. Love Gavin James Laidlaw
