Ave Maria Mr. D
For my beloved grandson

Your Poppa and I loved you so much.
We used to say you were our reward in life,
because you brought us so much happiness.

We watched you thrive and grow
while you lived with us
for the last three years of your life.
Those years were so happy for us all
in a small two-bedroom flat
that was sunny and warm
and full of love and hope.

You were such a "great kid," as Poppa used to say,
aiming high, quietly and diligently achieving everything you set out to do.
Our scholarship boy!
Outstanding and exceptional.
Sensitive and kind, and so creative.

My favourite memory of you
was when Poppa and I came to see your play.
We couldn´t believe how confident you were on the stage.
Afterwards, in the foyer,
you were so happy you threw your arms around Poppa and me
and you couldn´t stop smiling.

And when we picked you up from the airport
after you had finished Spirit of Adventure,
you were so tired you couldn´t sit up.
Lying on the back seat of the car,
you were chirping all the way home,
telling us all about it like a happy little bird.

I will never stop loving you, Mr. D,
and will have the intentions of Masses said for
you always and everywhere,
consecrating you to Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
I pray for God to heal your broken heart,
and for you to see the perpetual light
of His holy face for eternity.

We will see each other again, Mr. D,
in the New Jerusalem,
the Eternal City,
where we will live in love and peace forever.

All of my love and prayers,
from your loving grandmother,
Miriam
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.

Gone far too soon Damien. I am sorry you had to go. I know all those that loved and knew you wish you would of stayed. The world is a lot emptier without you in it. So many achievements so young, who knows what amazing things you would of achieved in 5 years time. 10 years time and beyond. I wish you had known how much love and support you had behind you in life. You will be so missed. You were so kind, thoughtful and a beacon of knowledge and support for those around you.

To Joseph & the Hollins family, may your memories give you peace, comfort, and strength at this sad time. You should be proud of the amazing man Damien turned into. He was a credit to you all.

I was only a year 9 when I met Damien and they were a year 13. Yet they never made me feel like I couldn't talk to them. And I knew all their jokes were in good fun and they made me feel so incredibly supported all the time. They'd come to my plays and tutor me in math when I sucked at it. I'll never stop missing them. Rest in peace Damien

I only knew him for a few months, we would often sit together during classes at Uni. I remember he had the most ridiculously complex paper sculptures.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
