I remember Mr Prentice when I attended Mt Roskill Grammar School. He was such a kind humble man with strong Christian values. I was so heartbroken when he passed away. There will never be anyone like him. Will always remember in every assembly he would quote bible verses, and I would write everyone of them in my diary, always reading it and remembering it off by heart. I believe he was the best principal Mt Roskill Grammar School ever had. Rest in Gods eternal love

Dear Margaret & family - our deepest sympathy & love at this sad news. We had the privilege of working with Colin on many occasions all over the world while he was with World Vision NZ & we with World Vision International. We treasure fond memories of his love & concern for those who suffered. A true man of God & man of action. We are better off in this world today because of Colin Prentice. We miss you, fellow Kiwi! Our love & prayers. Pam & Russ Kerr, California.

I was privileged to be taught English at Lynfield College by Colin in his first year out of training. His enthusiasm and fairness left a lasting impression on me and he will always remain my favourite teacher. I was delighted when he became the head at Mt Roskill Grammar as two if my children were then able to benefit from his wonderful and inspirational teaching. A great man never to be forgotten.

In memory of Colin.
. Your faith mixed with a dose of realism but stretched to full capacity with Vision and a strong sense of mission.
• Your strong sense of purpose
• Your stories with critical detail told to compel response
• Your foundation of prayer and your integrity & honesty
• Your strength and confidence to make tough decisions
• The wonderful way you memorised people's names and used their name when you met them months later
• The way you cared about every person from senior management to volunteers
Helen and I have been so blessed to know you and your mentoring has changed my life.
Love and thanks to Margaret and family

One of the lights of our community has gone out - for now. Colin Prentice - a serious follower of Christ, dynamic educationalist, tireless advocate for poverty elimination, dedicated church leader, shining example to many and great prayer! You'll be missed Colin but your light has been taken up by many along the way.

As a former President of Scripture Union NZ, Colin inspired many of us in our journey of faith. I have never forgotten his challenge to us with the words, ‘What is the most important thing in the world? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.' We know that Colin lived out that truth in the context of his strong Christian faith and his daily practice of reading God's Word. He wrote recently of how the Bible had nearly always brought just the right word for him personally, adding ‘… it's reproved, cautioned, inspired, guided, encouraged, consoled and sometimes nudged me to share with someone else.' We thank God for the legacy of his life and pray God's blessing on those who will miss him the most.

I am so privileged to have been mentored by Colin for the last four and a bit years. He was a man of God whose love for the Lord manifested itself in practical ways. Colin was accessible, down to earth and easy to talk to. He was clever and full of wisdom, but never haughty, never 'above' the vast majority of us who find our orbit at a lower level than his. Colin saw the good in everybody and lived to bring out the potential in others. I have benefited greatly from him. 'Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers.....' (1 Cor 4:15). The Lord called Colin home. He has run his race and entered into his reward. He encourages me yet to run mine to the full. May Margaret and the family know God's grace at this time.

In 2007 Colin was the guest speaker at the Queen Margaret College Prizegiving held in the Wellington Town Hall. His message was: if it is to be, it is up to me. Thereafter this catch phrase was quoted by students and parents alike and kind of summed him up. He will be remembered as an inspirational educator and an outstanding man. My sincere sympathies to his wife and family. Carol Craymer

Colin was an inspirational leader to us at World Vision in the 90s. Travelling with him on school visits was an unforgettable experience, as was keeping up with his 'on the ground' feedback from Rwanda and the Balkans. May God comfort you Margaret and your family at this time

PRENTICE, Colin I have no one like him who takes a genuine interest in your welfare - Philippians 2.20 Colin's was a life well-lived and his influence will last long. We have been privileged to have Colin in our lives for he has contributed greatly to our work in education, sharing his wisdom so willingly and kindly. We offer our sincere thanks for his time and inspiration but ultimately for his nurturing of us as people. He died as he lived, with integrity and care.
