When rummaging around in my shop, I recently found the jar of LanoCote that I bought directly from Colin in 1982. Of course, it is almost empty and pretty well dried up by now, but it brought back good memories of Colin so I did a search and found this. My wife and I were among the many yachties who were shepherded from the tropics down to New Zealand by Colin's excellent weather data. We must have received some special attention from him because he knew that we were on a very small 8 meter boat. When we were still a few days out, he advised us to maximize our speed, as a front was on the way. We got to the Bay of Islands just in time in good weather but the boats that came in not long after were hammered by the front. When we arrived at Russell, Colin very kindly scooped us up and took us home, where we met Janice and Trudi. Janice treated us to a proper New Zealand dinner of hogget, kumara and peas and then tucked us into bed between flannel sheets. This was Heaven on Earth after an eighteen day passage from Rarotonga! Needless to say, we have fond memories of Colin and his family. So, ZL1BKD, fair winds and following seas! After all these years, you are not forgotten.
