I was very saddened to hear of Chris's passing.
I remember the first day I met chris in Christchurch hospital.
He made quite an impression in Chch A/M
with his long hair, laid back persona , funny and great to be around .
He was very kind and sympathetic, and was an excellent doctor.
I met you last at at Auckland Airport 5 years you travelling to a course.
Brother I such miss you.

Chris, was a shock to hear of your sudden death.
I only met you once. You left such an impression, you were my hero doctor. You are unforgetable. You watched me with a smile, arms crossed after they had administered morphine and said I wish there were more people like you, and then ran off to get your cellphone and played 'they are coming to take you away ha ha' which set us off into fits and giggles.
Chris, you are a rare and needed person in this world. You are a giant of a man. We need more kings like you.
I guess heaven needed you more.

' I wish there were more people like you'

Condolences to your family. I can't imagine what they are going thru. Be proud, be very proud.

Chris was a wonderful person but he also expressed his humanity in a magnificent way through his profession. Almost 20 years ago he saved my life most probably by diagnosing my condition where others had overlooked it. He was warm, caring, creative and had great humanity. I thank the universe that we have had him with us. Warmly, Rita Dibert

I am truly sorry to hear of your loss and offer you my condolences.

Chris led the team in A&E that saved my son's life and for that I am forever in his debt. What I really appreciated was the way that he was sensitive to my need to be there, and simply worked around me - something that I don't think many doctors would do and for that I am forever grateful. I had the chance to thank him thrice, which I did every time, but his humility and credit to others really shows what a wonderful man he was.

I am sure my story is just one of thousands, which shows how many people's lives he positively influenced; and is the sign of an exemplary life.

He really was one in a million, and I am saddened that his time was cut short.

My deepest sympathies for your loss and the tragedy of his death.

With love,
Jessica Allan.

On behalf of my son, Hilal Otri, I would like to express gratitude for his thoughts and actions on that fateful day. Thank you Chris.

A giant of a man: so much fun and compassion, so much wisdom. The whole of Whanganui will be worse off without you. I hope that the bridges you built between the medical and the Mori community can continue to flourish in your absence. I hope that we will all be a little wiser and kinder because of you.

I have been lucky to have had you as a part of our extended family and will be forever grateful for this love and caring you have shown to my Mum and our family.
I have never known a more passionate, caring, sensitive, environmentally conscious person and my Mum has always described you as a rebel with a cause and I think she got you 100% right!
Fly free Chris - you were a wonderful human.

Dear Chris.
I am honoured and privileged to have had you in my life.
The day I met you at Whanganui hospital was certainly a day that changed my life forever and I have enjoyed the time we have spent since including our hikoi to Wellington from Cqpe Reinga.
You never needed to prove how much you cared but over and over again you did including when you brought the whole family to Waikato hospital to break me out briefly and take me for ice-cream!
There are countless other times you were there during happy, sad and challenging times and I will miss you more than I can begin to tell you.
I will be there for Mandy, Caitlin and Connor - always.
Fly high my rebel with a cause.
Much love Rita (Oma)

Our condolences go to Mandy and family. Chris was a great cousin and friend. He will be sorely missed by all his Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

I had the pleasure of spending time with Chris early last year when we lost an Uncle and brother to Peter. I will treasure those memories.

I honour and celebrate this giant of a man, who at the same time was a gentle and ego-less colleague, friend and 'brother'. He was quite remarkable in the capacities he lived out and with which he touched so many. I'm a better person for having known him.

Chris, thank you for your words of wisdom in my time of need. I will forever be grateful.
Mandy, Caitlin, Connor and Sammie; and the extended whanau, thank you for your willingness to share Chris with so many others. This was as great a gift, as his laughter and wisdom, but in a different way.
You are not alone in your grief and loss, for around you stand the people who love you and will support you in the times ahead.
Although not present in these few days, I will continue to support you in my thoughts and send healing energy.
Dr Chris, freedom is now truly yours. Arohanui.

I am so saddened to hear of Chris's passing. I knew him only within the walls of the hospital, but having him across the hall in the ED when I was covering WAM was always a relief and a comfort. Chris was always willing to help and would come bouncing in to WAM, usually with a smile on his face. He was my go-to-guy when it came to operating the opthalmoscope. Chris's passing is a great loss for Wanganui. My thoughts are with his family, but please know, Chris's kindness and humanity reached many and I will always remember him for that.
