Chris CATHCART Obituary

Dearest Rosemary, Rory and Jean, I just got the email about Chris. Even though we never met he was a man of great honor and pride. I will never forget the email that Rosemary sent me the day after 9/11. Chris had a play going on that night and yet took the time to ask the audience to take a moment to reflect on the days events. It meant so much to those across the many time zones that day that others are thinking of a country in shock. I send my love over the miles and my heart goes out to all of you. May the wonderful memories you have stay close to your heart as the days go on. Love Cousin Pat and Family

Dear Rosemary and family
We were so saddened to receive the news that dear Chris had died and it came as rather a shock. You have all been in my thoughts so much since receiving your phone call. Chris was such a special person and had such a rich personality. In spite of his health challenges he put huge energy into everything he did along with much humour. Even now I can hear his infectious chuckle and loud laughter. There was never a dull moment when Chris was around and I always enjoyed my time spent with him where ever it might have been. My most recent memories of him are of us being together beret hunting in Dunedin. He had very definite beret criteria and I do not know if he was successful in ever finding a new beret that met this criteria but we certainly had a few laughs trying to do so!
I can not begin to imagine how you are feeling right now, but I do know how much you all love Chris and that his loss will be just enormous for you all. We hope that knowing we are thinking of you and care about you will provide some comfort at this extremely difficult time. We too will miss Chris and hold close to our hearts memories of the happy times we have had with him. Sadly, distance prevents us from being with you to farewell Chris on Tuesday but we hope to see you early in the New Year and be able to share fond memories of a dear friend. CATHCART, Chris. Passed away on 11 December 2013. Passed away peacefully in Rotorua Hospital surrounded by his family. Loved Uncle of Stewart, Hamish, Angus and Iain Cathcart and families. Rest in peace.
