Molly Baumgardner Wimmer
November 5, 2024
Hello - I learned today from a retired Furman professor friend (Elaine Nocks, psychology) about Carolyn and must share how much I admired and respected Dr. Watson as my art history professor in the fall of 1992 when I was a Furman sophomore (Asian Studies major) - Molly Baumgardner from Clemson - running to her 8am class from the dining hall trying to inhale a blueberry muffin at the same time. Now I am 51 and live in Greenville, SC. I studied so hard and loved every minute of her class. I can never thank her enough for imparting her work ethic and love of art which delights me (and my daughter I encouraged because of Dr. Watson to take AP art history in high school) to this day: in fact, I was seeing Girl with a Pearl Earring by Vermeer in the Netherlands just days before Carolyn passed. I will light a candle in her honor the next time I see great art. I send you all - all family members across the generations - my love and will plant a tree of course - a forest if I could. What a privilege to say this incredible woman loved in so many roles by you was one of the few life-changing professors I had at Furman exactly this time 32 years ago. And she never knew! Please receive my gratitude on her behalf.
