Carlos HUMPHRIS Obituary

HUMPHRIS, Carlos Jay. On Friday 29 December 2023, we lost our beautiful son Carlos as the result of a car accident in the Bay of Islands, aged 18 years and 10 days. Adored and loved son of Carlos and Judy, and adored big brother of Eva and Aidan. Loved grandson, cousin, nephew, friend, and student. Best friend to Nate and inspiration to many. Sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him. A celebration of Carlos' life will be held at the Orewa Baptist Church, 2 Loop Road, Orewa on Monday 8 January 2024 at 11am, followed by a private family burial. Dress code "come as you are, but Carlos loved black". "Birds of a feather" In lieu of flowers, donations to the wonderful charity youthintransition.org.nz, who aid and support youth mental health, would be very much appreciated.

Really sorry I did not make it to NZ in time to meet you. I know how proud your father was when you were born and how he was looking forward to your 1st birthday when Judy was going to go back to work and he was to take paternity leave to stay at home looking after you.
Here's one of the first photos of your parents together, when they have started dating, before you came into this world bringing so much joy into their life.
Farewell "little" Carlos .

I fondly remember our first trip to Greenwich Cinema to watch "Johnny Cash - Walk The Line" with your Mum and Jamie. I have a photo (yet to be found) of you and Jamie in the front of the cinema. We had lunch at Cafe Rouge afterwards. We were very proud Mummy's. Lots of lovely memories. Devastated that you're gone. Sending much love to your family. X

I love how your Mum and Dad arranged for us to all come together, far and wide, to celebrate your life. I am so sad that you are no longer with us in the physical world, but I know you will forever be with us in our hearts. I feel so privileged to have met you, to have taught you, and to have been able to keep in touch with you over the years. When I reminisce about our experiences together and when I look at the amazing young man you became, I´m in awe of your bravery, your strength, your determination, your resilience, your sense of wonder ... and your incredibly clever brain. Life in the neurotypical world wasn´t easy, but you learned how to negotiate it so that you could be happy, successful, and independent. Thank you for all that you taught us about neurodivergence ... and thank you for teaching us about the things that were so obvious to you, yet we clearly needed help/guidance. I can still hear your voice in my head saying, "Everyone knows that you just press the spacebar to pause or restart a video". At the time, we were all still finding our way around computers, but you´d already figured that out. Throughout your life, you had lessons to teach and you taught them well. I am immensely proud of you, Carlos.
