Very sorry for your loss Anne which I only just heard of. Brears was my first boss at Sportmat International. He was a great first boss, firm but with a great sense of humour. He would happily tell us some of his Police war stories and he was an inspiration for me to join the NZ Police some years later and have a 20 year career with them. Will be remembered and missed, all the best

Brears Basham was an amazing person. He taught me in Form 2, 1966. I remember so much of what happened that year in the classroom. It was life changing for me.
I´m glad to tell his family just what he did for me, he was, by a long way, the best teacher I ever had. I´m forever grateful to him.

So sad to hear this - He was my teacher in Rm19 1970 at BHB Intermediate, firm but fair and on hindsight one of the best teachers I had. Many memories of him at the school and I still keep in touch with a few of my classmates - Rest easy, Mr B - from the kids of Rm19.

Dear Anne, condolences to you and your family. Brears was truely a good bloke!
As a life member of Waitakere Gymnastics Club, his passion for the Club was appreciated by myself and club members. He was instrumental in securing a permanent home for the club in New Lynn. I appreciated all his help and support over the years. Therese Irving, Past Chair Person, Waitakere Gymnastics Club

Anne, condolences to you and the family. A special man.
Brears was one of my first mentors as a 13 year old he must have been about 24, teaching at BHB intermediate. He treated me like a younger brother, teaching me life values that are with me today.

We are shocked and saddened by Brears´ sudden death. He is remembered as a hugely respected man of high integrity whose professionalism, patience and thorough approach to investigations during the `Mr Asia´ era had a profound and lasting impact organised crime and drug offending in NZ. We are unable to attend the funeral, but our thoughts will be with Anne and family during this time.

Brears was my rugby coach (and also my brothers - Graeme Bartlett) along with a Mr Fletcher for Auckland West Roller Mills rugby team in the 1960's. I remember him as a quiet and gentle man who always gave positive comments.

Brears was a friend and respected police colleague and we worked closely together for some years in the Auckland CIB. He was a steady and reliable hand in a sometimes rocky boat. May he now rest in peace. My deepest condolences to Anne and family.
