As a boy my family lived opposite Bob and he and my father John were great friends. Two of the original Wednesday night boys who played pool and had a few beers in our rumpus room every week.
Bob was a really lovely man. In fact, he was a really cool guy.
He and my dad spent a lot of time tinkering on their cars together. He welded up a few of my cars, changed an engine in one and helped dad tune a lotus motor in a Jensen I had.
He and I used to sail Auckland Harbour in his yacht and had some great conversations in the process.
Growing up in Te Atatu in the 70´s and 80´s was a really special time, and Bob and Daphne made it all the better.
As I grew older he and my dad were great guys to have a beer with.
Take care Bob. Say hi to dad for me and put a beer in the fridge for me. It's going to be in there a while, but I look forward to catching up with you guys one day.
Love to your family.

Work and boating bought about a friendship for many years. Unfortunately loosing contact when Bob moved south and I moved north, still think about Bob and always will.
