"Kua hinga te totara o Te Waonui a Tane" - A mighty Totara tree from the forest of Tane has fallen. Basil was a mighty leader without ever realising that he was. He led by example. His counsel wise, his character humble, his humour delightful and a friend to all. A faithful follower of Christ who took literally the words of Jesus, "The son of man came to serve, not to be served and to give his life....... Fondly remembered, Charlie and Dianna.

It is with such sadness to hear of Basil's passing. What a real joy it has been, getting to know the Dougherty family and friends. Sincere condolences to you all.

dear Janet, Michael, Patrick, Liam and Daniel - and uncle Michael - I have such wonderful memories of Basil and Joy and your family when I was a Dominican nun in Rathgar Road, Henderson. You were always so welcoming and your parents were people of true and down to earth faith. I loved the times I spent with them. Arohanui Susan Healy
