Barry McKEY Obituary

McKEY, Barry Michael. Barry passed away on the 4th February 2023 at home, after a short illness. Barry was the eldest son of Mac and Lorna McKey. Barry lived and worked most of his life in Matamata and Tauranga. Youngest brother Don passed just over a year ago. Barry is survived by his nephew Mike and niece Lorraine and grand uncle to Heather, Joseph and Thomas. Barry dedicated his life to the community through the Matamata Rotary Club and Historical society. A memorial service for Barry will be held at Broadway Funeral Home, Matamata on Saturday 11th February at 11am. Messages to the McKey family C/- Broadway Funeral Home, 10 Short St, Matamata 3400.

We recently heard about the loss of your uncle and our family wanted you to know that we thought he was such a kind and caring man. We first met Barry when he came to the states with his friend Morrie, who is my husband´s uncle, in 2003. They were being shown around the Western US by Morrie´s sister, Yvonne. I brought my daughter to New Zealand in Dec 2004 to travel and see our Baigent family. Barry invited us to stay with him. We hiked Mt Maunganui and he had so much interesting information to share with us. We have continued to stay in touch and he has sent us his bird Christmas cards every year. We are so sorry for your loss! I´m sure he´ll be missed by many.
