Aurelio DA ROS Obituary

DA ROS, Aurelio. (Born in Montaner, Treviso, Italy.) Slipped away peacefully on 21st April 2025 with his girls by his side aged 86 years. Devoted husband of 54 years of the late Gina. Deeply loved and respected Dad to Ivanna, Vanessa and Diella. Affectionately known as 'The Don' by his sons in law Nick and Matt. Best ever Nonno to Matt, Emily, Zac, Olivia, Maia, Stella and Eva. Aurelio was cheeky, kind hearted, generous and full of fun. A natural storyteller who was loved by everyone. At 17, he left post war Italy with a small suitcase and built a new life for himself in NZ. His strength, courage, determination and unfailing optimism carried him through every chapter of his life, especially in the last two years as his faced his illness. He is, and always will be, our greatest role model, the driving force behind our family, our inspiration and our icon. Riposa in pace Dad, ti vogliamo tante bene. Aurelio's funeral will be held at Selwyn Village chapel on Monday 28th April at 1pm. Aroha Funerals 095270266

Would like to send my condolences to the family for their loss. I met Aurelio and the daughters not long ago by chance at the hospital where I work and got the opportunity to have a chat about his story. As many other Italians that came over long time ago, he was a great person. Wish he had many more years to spend with his lovely family. I know he´ll be deeply missed

Diella, Vanessa and Ivanna,
I have so many lovely memories of spending time in your family home in our late teens. I remember both your parents as being full of warmth and laughter. Family dinners around the table, helping clean up, playing pool, and of course the grappa tasting.
When your parents came to meet my mine, we had to forbid my father from trying to say Aurelio´s name when he shook his hand, because even though we´d coached him, he simply couldn´t get it right.
He was a fabulous man with a fabulous accent. I know you will all miss him so much. Nice to know he´ll be with your Mum now.
Arrivederci Aurelio, The Don!

Diella, Vanessa and Ivanna, I remember meeting your amazing Dad for the first time when I was still a teenager. I feel like he was one of the most joyous people on earth, and his sweet accent always bought a smile to my face. In all these years I don´t believe I´ve ever seen him not happy, whether in person or in your photos. He really was an iconic character, and I was so lucky to get to meet some of his family in Montaner all those years ago. Thinking of you all, and may he rest in peace with your beautiful Mother. Your obituary captures Aurelio´s essence and spirit perfectly. Getting to know your family over the past few decades, we have always admired the closeness of your family, and it has been wonderful to share some happy, extended family celebrations with the da Ros family. Aurelio always made us feel special even though we didn´t see him often. That friendly face, twinkling smile and sense of humour we will always remember. Your unstinting presence at his side was a testament to your bond. Rest in peace Aurelio.

Diella - Our sad hearts are weeping in farewelling such a lovely man and friend. Thank you for bringing him into our family and sharing him so often at Da Ros gatherings. He will live on in the humour, kindness, good looks and love-for-people that he has passed on to you all. So sad to lose one of the best Dads and Grandads. In return you´ve given him the most gentle death - bathed in your fierce love and tireless attention over the final days and weeks. Rest in peace Aurelio.

I only knew Aurelio for a short time and when he was very ill, but long enough to become very fond of him and to think of him as one of the best people I have ever known. It is an honour and a privilege to have known some one as cheerful, friendly and brave as Aurelio.

Aurelio, I still remember meeting you at 19, I loved your family dinners, Gina´s cooking, your love of horse racing and your beautiful daughters. I loved the period when I saw you weekly at Westmere school. You were a great family man and knew what was important in life. May those gorgeous blue eyes twinkle forever. Go well you legend!
