Arthur POMEROY Obituary

POMEROY, Arthur John . Emeritus Professor Arthur Pomeroy joined the Classics Programme at Victoria University of Wellington as an undergraduate in 1971 and returned after Fulbright- sponsored study abroad to teach there until his retirement in 2019. He was internationally recognized first for his traditional scholarship in classics, and later for his innovative studies of the relation between television, film, and the classical world. Survived by his brother Doug, his sister-in-law Neneth, and his niece Juanita of Adelaide. Art was an exceptional chess player who loved film, music, good food, and NZ wine. He died at home and will be much missed by his friends and colleagues, his students, his family, and his beloved cats, Boudicca and Calgacus. A memorial service to remember and celebrate Art's life will be held at a future date. Donations to the SPCA. Lychgate Funerals FDANZ 385 0745 www.lychgate.co.nz

I always enjoyed Ptofessor Pomeroy's lectures on Roman History and more recently at the Wgtn Classical Association. He was witty and entertaining. As a person he was very down-to-earth and
kind.

An absolute gentleman with a great sense of humor. Gone to join Trundle in the big lecture theatre where all good classicists go. Memories of laughter in the corridors shared by History and Classics at Vic.
