A unique man and friend during many years in post Office Engineering Branch.
When Arthur returned from lengthy period in the World Bank advising on Telecommunications projects he took up a senior role in Auckland. Practical too. he adopted a "meter", the type used to time phone calls and create the bill, as an economy gauge for his car by counting the electric petrol pump delivery from the car's tank. When he and Claire built a new house in Greenhithe Claire would not agree to a staircase up to the large attic. Arthur then build a hidden lift using parts from a dismantled gear and motor driven telephone exchange ( Wellesley Street) so that there were no stairs involved.
Such memories will remain for ever.
