Dear Yee Family,

I am deeply saddened to hear about Anthony's passing. I still can't believe he's gone. Although I didn't know Ant for very long, he certainly left a lasting impression on me.

I got to know Ant through Steve Yee after we jammed a few times on my soundstage. Ant mentioned that his 50th birthday was approaching and had a fun idea to form a band inspired by the famous reggae group UB40-let's call it UB50. Get it? "You Be 50!" We thought it was hilarious, and before we knew it, we were actually doing it! Ant really got into it; he even designed UB50 T-shirts, and Phil Yee created a special poster to promote the occasion and play live at his birthday at the Northshore venue.

We took our small band quite seriously; it was quite the mix: Steve Yee, Anthony Rima, Jock Lay Yee, myself, and of course, our band leader, Anthony. Those weeks leading up to the big day were unforgettable. We practiced as though we were professional musicians, spending hours rehearsing, printing out chord sheets, and fine-tuning each song on my music stage. The energy was electric-cranking up the amps and hitting those chords made it all come alive!

Every practice felt like a mini-party. We sang Ant's favourite Kiwi band tracks at the top of our lungs. "Why Does Love Do This to Me" by The Exponents was always a crowd-pleaser. We grooved to Dragon's "Are You Old Enough" and had a blast with The Beatles' "When I Was Seventeen." But what I'll always remember is the way Ant's face would light up when he nailed that guitar riff in "Losing My Religion." It was clear that song meant a lot to him.

This whole experience encapsulated who Ant was to me-a fun-loving, creative guy with an incredible talent for bringing people together through music and laughter. I'm so grateful to have been part of it, even if it was just for a short time.

Ant's spirit, along with his love for music and good times, will live on in all of us who knew him. He was truly one of a kind, our UB50 brother.

Sending you all my love and deepest sympathies,

William Kwan
