A message from Tony's former primary school - Wellesley College in Eastbourne, Lower Hutt, where he attended from 1972-1978 for his Years 1-8, and where he was Dux in his final year. We are so sad to hear this news and we are all thinking of Tony's family at this very difficult time. We send our most heartfelt sympathies and love. Our warmest regards - Rosie Torbit, Development Foundation Office on behalf of the Principal, Staff and Boys at Wellesley.

I was so sad to hear of Tony's passing. My deepest sympathy to all his family. I know that you will hear many times that he is remembered as such a gentle, caring, hard working and highly competent GP. I was a colleague in Ngatea at Hauraki Plains Health Centre at the time he was working in Paeroa. He was just that in all our eyes. My daughter Lisa spent time with him as a medical student on attachment and he was also a great mentor and teacher. Love to his family. Liz Davies

I was Tony's partner in the Paeroa medical centre for 20 years. Over the years we had plenty of good times and never had any disagreements which is quite remarkable considering the sometimes divisive situations we encountered from time to time. He had wisdom and communication skills that allowed him to become a natural teacher and both undergraduates and postgraduates benefitted from these skills. In fact he was called in when others had failed to bring a candidate up to level.
He had a extraordinary work ethic and despite commuting from Hamilton for all those years to add to his load he never allowed a bit of ill health or family crises to prevent him from working.
He did live in Paeroa for a couple of years making some lifelong friends before being persuaded to move to Hamilton.
He had an enduring love of sporty cars and used to take some of the braver staff in his little two seater which required some gymnastics just to get in!
His last project - building a new medical centre that catered better for the needs of the doctors and community proved to be a major undertaking and it seems totally unfair that he became unwell before he really had the chance to enjoy its benefits.
Tony was selfless in being the best he could to help his patients and helping a new generation of doctors while keeping his family foremost.
He will be dearly missed by everybody he came in contact with.
