Dear Sarah and family - both Tony and I were very sad to learn of Neil's passing. He certainly gave his all combatting CLL and I know he was a good support and source of information for Tony in the early days of their shared challenges with this disease. Know that you are very much in our thoughts...hard to be so far away. Sending wishes for comfort and peace. Avril and Tony Bai

My sincere sympathy Sarah and the girls. Neil was a friend and colleague who helped me a lot and was very easy to work with. He had a great sense of humour and was so clever with his witty prose. He made the hospital reviews a fun night all those years ago.
He has also been so staunch throughout his illness years. Will be missed by many. Big hugs. Xx

Our deepest condolences to Sarah, family and friends. Although we knew him best before his illness battle, even then he was an inspiration. From student to supportive shoulder, his view was clear, advice direct and his humour ever present accompanied by an eye twinkle or two. Underpinning it all was a deep appreciation of humanity that we certainly benefitted from. Rob and Gloria Neale.

Neil´s booming " Kia ora " across the airport always brought a smile to my face. Such a genuine friend, always more interested in what was happening to everyone else and playing down his own personal battles. My thoughts are with everyone who knew Neil because we will surely miss him.

Neil was the most wonderful man to work beside for 16 years. He had me take his work over to him while he got treatment, he never sat still, even with a line going in his arm. Highly respected and a pleasure to work for. My love and thoughts are with his family.

Sarah and family, my sincere sympathies for the loss of Neil. He was indeed a larger-than-life character who gave his unfailing enthusiasm and encouragement to those around him, always tempered with a wonderful sense of humour and a love of literature. His mentorship and guidance from my early days as a junior doctor has placed me in good stead over the years, and for that I am eternally grateful to Neil. My thoughts are with you all. Kia kaha, Calum.

Neil was a special man and I was blessed to have him as my guide and mentor in my early career. His enthusiasm energy and optimism meant the glass was never half empty and I am so grateful for his sharing his passion for life both within and outside of medicine. He will be sadly missed.
