My condolences to Tonys family for your loss, not only to you all but justice and common sense.Always remembered for his firm but fair approach and knowing when some one was trying to put it across him.Im greatful for the help and mentoring he gave me while I was completing my assignments as a Judicial JP.My fondest memory in court was when a defendant was sentenced to 6months imprisonment by Tony to which the reply was I can do that standing on my head,Tony had him put back in the dock and advised him ,Is that so,well Im giving you another 6months to get back on feet. You will be sorely missed Tony,Rest In Peace.

Fond memories of a crazy trip to a Hasting´s Blossom Festival, Glenn Wilson inspired, and summer nights in Gisborne on motorcycles 1971/72.
Not surprised by comments re court room demeanour- always very quick witted.
RIP - Dennis Slade (PhD) Massey University.

To the Adeane family, my deepest condolences for the loss of such an awesome man.
I met Tony when I was a fresh faced constable working in Gisborne.
In my dealings with him i found he was a firm but fair judge.
I have a particular memory from a meeting on the road between Waiouru & Ohakune that cemented my respect for him.
Rest in Peace your Honour.
Respect always.
Former constable WSI774

I am very sad to learn of Tony’s death. We were at school together in Gisborne and had a lovely relationship after we both became judges. Tony was a proud Gisborne boy and gave everything in his judial career.

I am saddened to hear of Judge Adeane's passing. I prosecuted in front of him for several years in the late 1990s and always looked forward to him being on the bench. Very firm but fair, and a great sense of humour. Defendants would often poke their noses into the court and see if he was there or not, as he was known to be tough. If he was sitting, there'd often be a surge in warrants to arrest as they opted to take their chances on another judge. He had a big influence on me and he will be missed.
