Condolences to Trecha and Family. I played rugby with Andy at primary School level, "Go Country!" and went thru Wanganui Boys College in same classes as Andy - who was more prominent in early days as a tennis player -he was a bit of a class room character even back then! I recall Andy as a Fullback before he advanced into the engine-room and developed those infamous line out skills! I lived in Howick for 30 years and rang Andy to advise we had never caught up for coffee - amazingly the number was in the phone book but as Andy later commented, "crank callers never lasted long!" He invited me to catch up and I was delighted to do so, enjoying a couple of hours of his valuable time. Farewell to Wanganui's biggest export! Grader Howells

My belated condolences. While I was not at home at the time, I do remember my parents (Pat and Malcolm) provided Andy with a place to stay when he was in London while he played for the Harlequins. My brother, who is still in UK, sends his condolences as he remembers that time well. He was certainly a great player and ambassador.

Dear Trecha and family
We walked the Milford Track with you guys a few years ago as part of the Davies family trip. Fond memories. It was a pleasure to have met Andy and yourself.
As a prominent rugby player of his time, if ever his name comes up in rugby conversation, we've always made a point of telling our friends what a really nice genuine person he was.
He will be sadly missed.
Sincere condolences

I have great memories of playing rugby with Andy in the Junior ABs, Auckland and Barbarian teams and against him for University. He and Trecha were a big part of our lives. Andy was a friend and leader. Taken far too soon.
Kindest regards

In the late seventies, whilst working in the Cooks, I was assigned to meet the Hadens outside the Rarotongan Hotel where he was to address Rotary Club members.Alternately looking at my watch and up and down the road for his taxi or flash rental car, Andy soon appeared riding a tiny 50cc motor bike - a true Cooks mode of transport so loved by the locals. Initially I could not see Trecha - she was well hidden from view as pillion passenger! A 'big' moment for me never to be forgotten!
Sincere condolences to all family.

Dear Trecha and family
my sincere condolences on the passing of Andy.
He will be missed greatly by you all
Sadly the big All Blacks seem to be taken early.
It is two plus years now since Gary died I wonder where that time has gone.
I wish you all courage and strength to face the days ahead.
with loving thoughts

To the Haden family In the early days when Andy lived on the family farm in the Kahikatea valley Okoia near Wanganui i used to go duck shooting with Andys father Peter on their farm, it was an annual event with a lot of neighbors and afterwards congregate at their homestead and were well looked after by Joan, Andy's mother, A marvelous woman . Andy did his primary schooling at the Okoia school just down the road from the farm ..My rugby club was the Ohakune-karioi club in Ohakune and Andy was our guest speaker at prize giving ,very good, he left us two boxes of the book he had written for our fundraising. He never forgot his grassroots rugby. On a visit to his home in Auckland he had great pleasure in showing me the beautiful timber floor boards that he had milled from macrocarpa trees from the family farm at Okoia. I have followed Andy's achievements on and off the rugby field since his primary school days and as an added interest he is a distant cousin of mine . I offer my condolences to the family of a very special man.

We remember Andy as a great from our 1st XV days at Wanganui Boys College and a friend ever since who has always had time to talk of the past and present. We extend our sympathies to Trecha and family. Also to Ian, Sue and family who have lost their brother, brother-in-law and uncle. Rest in Peace Andy, yours was a truly full and rewarding life.
Neil Tuffin,
