Andrea ELMER Obituary

ELMER, Andrea Jean (nee Carr). With great sadness we announce that on Sunday 11th September 2022 Andrea Elmer lost her brave 16 month fight with brain cancer, passing away peacefully at 1:25pm surrounded by her husband of 34 years Les, three daughters (Amelia, Freya, Portia) and Freya's partner Zac. Andrea had a huge love of life, as an enthusiastic and adventurous traveller, which took her solo to London in 1979 and a year later led her to meet Les, with whom she spent the next 41 years travelling widely to the likes of: Paris, Rio, Joburg, Easter Island, and took many trips to the UK from their home in Murrays Bay, just six doors down from where Andrea grew up. A passionate equine coach, Andrea devoted the last 15 years to Riding for the Disabled (RDA), Andrea was the youngest of six siblings born to Ted and Joyce Carr and is survived by her brother Ted in Adelaide, and sisters' Leone and Susan in Auckland. We wish to thank the staff of Auckland and North Shore Hospitals including the Surgical, Radiotherapy, and MRI suites; St John Ambulance; Freedom Drivers; and in particular Dr Richard Sullivan and the staff of Canopy Cancer Care for their attentive ministrations to Andrea since last December. A celebration of Andrea's life will be held at Forrest Funeral Services in Browns Bay, Auckland on Thursday 15th September at 10:30am, and also available via live streaming; followed by interment and wake with family and close friends. Donations to the NZ Brain Cancer Trust appreciated.
