I met Alma (and her husband Tim) during their radio days at the NZBC. A wonderful couple - both very happy to share their extensive knowledge of broadcasting to an inquisitive young lad. I never caught up with them again but will always remember the kindness shown me.

Alma was an inspiration and leaves a significant legacy. I was her pupil for almost 10 years and will always remember visiting her in the gorgeous cottage in Titirangi and the elegant townhouse in Remuera- filled with shelves of books, poetry and calming setees. She had such elegance and poise. Most significantly she filled her students with a love of poetry, literature and for the spoken word. Her influence on my career, my choices, my love of English and therefore that of my children will never be forgotten.

Alma was a wonderfully talented teacher and friend. I feel so privileged to have known her and to have been guided by her in my studies and by being able to bring theatrical shows to the stage.
Gone but never forgotten. Time spent teaching is never lost!

Alma was a true lady, never flustered, always serene and gracious. Always kind and caring. Yes, the white cottage in Titirangi was a true "Alma Evans-Freke" house. Beautiful and dainty. We first met almost forty years ago, when she taught my daughter Andra, speech and drama - we have been on each others "Christmas card list" ever since - keeping up with each others news.
Alma, rest in peace - so much of you and your teachings will continue on in so many other younger people - we who were lucky enough to know you are very fortunate.
Timothy, your Mum was very special.

Alma - you were one person that made a positive difference in this world. You shared your talent with others and are such a loving supportive and kind person. I had the pleasure of working with you at St Cuthbert's College and you always made time for others, nothing was ever a bother. I'm so grateful I met you this life time and I will be forever thankful to you for all the love and support you gave me while I was there. May you rest in love and know that you made a positive difference in this world by being the beautiful person that you are. Always know that you are loved and never forgotten.

You Will Always Be Loved & Never Forgotten

Alma was a wonderful friend and a terrific broadcaster. It was always such a delight to see her whenever I was in Auckland. I shall miss her wicked sense of humour. The parties in the little white cottage in Titirangi were memorable. And we once, about 36 years ago, shared Christmas dinner in New York when she and son Tim were visiting. She was, as one of our radio colleagues once said, the Fairy on the Christmas Tree -- a most immaculate fairy.
