METGE, Alice Joan DBE. In her 95th year on 17 September 2025 in Auckland. Dearly loved sister of Dorothy and sister-in-law of Ken Bassett (both deceased), much loved auntie of Peter and Jacqui Bassett, Ian and Sharon Bassett, Lynne Tito (deceased), John and Carolyn Bassett. Loved great auntie of Christine (deceased) and Alan Watkins, Tim and Kylie Bassett, Eva, Jordan Bassett, Mary and Jonah Sofele, Elena Tito, David and Emily, Andrew and Hannah, Matthew, James and Tayla-Jay Bassett. Great great auntie to Elisabeth, David, Benjamin, Hannah Watkins, Amelia, Henry Bassett, Zion, Hosea, Jude Sofele, Micah, Daniel, Asher (both deceased) Bassett. Absent from the body, present with the Lord. A funeral service will be held at 10am, Wednesday, 24 September 2025 at Te Karaiti Te Pou Herenga Waka, 35 Cape Road, Mangere, Auckland.

Dear whanau & feleni of Joan~a giant Totara has fallen in the forest of Tane- a colleague,friend & mentor of 3 generations of our family - thanks to the universe for the long-life gift of her warm heart/ smart brain & deep wairua for all peoples of Aotearoa-she has left a legacy to appreciate & a challenge to pick up and fulfill- I loved & will miss her deeply- thank you for sharing her with nga tangata katou o Aotearoa Elena Meredith- Whakatu/ Nelson

Dame Joan was one of our Founders Award recipients and a regular attendee of our functions. She was a great supporter of the school and Old Girls Association. Per Angusta Ad Augusta.
