Alfred VINCENT Obituary

VINCENT, Alfred James (Dr). Died peacefully on 9 May 2013, aged 87 at home with his family. Much loved by all of his large family - husband of Ngaire Evelyn and father and father-in-law of Peter and Prudence, Christopher and Katrina, Richard and Tracey, Andrew and Lisa. Friend, confidante and sideline supporter to all of his grandchildren - Grace, Kate and Tessa; Amy, Olivia, Melissa and Daniel; Elizabeth and Amelia; Brooke and Matthew. Alfred was an obstetrician and Gynaecologist, music lover, raconteur, scientist, traveller and advocate but above all a man who gave passion and practical assistance to all of the many causes that interested him throughout his life. His highest passion was his family and their own interest. Death was not welcome - Alf was ill but still had much to offer and many projects on the go. A celebration of Alf's life will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 20 Church Street Devonport on Wednesday 15 May at 1:30 pm. Sincere thanks from the family to North Shore Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations to North Shore Hospice would be appreciated.

Dr Vincent delivered my only child in 1992 at his practice in Glen Dale WV. He was and still is the ONLY doctor I've had my entire life who I felt like really cared about his patients and their needs. He was truly wonderful.

I just learned of Dr. Vincent's death today. Those of us who knew him were so fortunate. He made everyone feel welcome and genuinely cared about those around him. I learned so much about the Bible from him and have always been grateful for that knowledge which has led me through my entire life. My deepest sympathies to all the Vincent family. My mother Jane just told me that she heard at the beauty salon in Moundsville WV of Alf's passing (still such a small town). My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I have nothing but fond memories of the many years I spent as an "adopted daughter" to your family. "A nice cup of tea" and "this car just lopes along" will forever be phrases that I associate with Dr. Vincent. I can't thank Alf and Ngaire enough for all the kindness and generosity that they shared with me during those formative years.
Mrs. Vincent, I am so sorry. I wish I was there to give you a big hug. To Chris, Peter and Richard, I am sorry for your loss and and I enjoyed you all so much, To Andrew, you and your family will always hold a special place in my heart. I will cherish those memories forever. I am so grateful that I was able to visit with him one more time a few years ago. Dr. Vincent was one great man and he will be soreley missed.

Much love, Martha
