Farewell, cousin Alec. I well remember your visits in past years and our fascinating conversations about music and so much else.

Thank you Alec for your buoyant spirit, your incredible industriousness and musicality, yet very open to the ordinary novice.
I enjoyed walking and talking with each member of the Loretto Family en route to and from Auckland Teachers College. We were fellow Prospect Terrace inhabitants.
I had been trying to contact Alec recently and sadly I missed the final connection.
What I am left with is a baroque tenor recorder we made together at Recorder Week 1993 in Wellington, and a family that plays recorder together.
You convinced me that the first instrument to be heard in heaven will be the dulcet tones of the humble recorder preparing the Hallelujah. Kind regards from the Whyle Family. Martin

You taught me for a few days at Sheffield Consolidated School, in Canterbury, just after you had arrived from England about 1951! You boarded with family friends - the Taylors. I recall you trying to get the class to make castles out of cardboard but couldn't understand why 10-year old New Zealand kids didn't know anything about castles familiar to English peoples !
Deepest sympathy to Alec's family,
Ian Piner (Sheffield School 1949-1952)

Alec, you were an inspiration to so many in the recorder community. Your kindness, your knowledge and humour will always be missed.
