A highlight of our Xmas holiday was staying a few days at the farm.

Sister to Alan. I too have fond childhood memories as we used to visit every year around New year. We lost touch a bit while living overseas but later Tracy would bring him to Waverley events and we would call in at Whangarei. He was always very welcoming and generous with his time. Came and watched my children playing sport, took us fishing and to see the goat farm. I envied his ability to play bridge. Rest in peace Uncle.

I so remember fondly visiting Uncle Linton at the farm from Childhood onwards. The life on the farm was so much fun compared to my Townie Lifestyle. He showed me how to Milk cows. He was not too upset when I later shot his pet ducks by the Cowshed. I did wonder why I was able to get so close to them! Uncle Linton had so many positive personality traits I admired and enjoyed. You gave me so many happy memories from "The Great White Hunter"

For Lou Lowe
Out from Teal Bay, where the tide keeps its stories,
we cast our lines from our trusty metal dinghy,
side-by-side in quiet company -
no hurry, no clock, just the sea, the sky, and Lou´s easy laugh.
From his beach house bach, summers unfolded like soft sand between our toes,
families gathered, winds salted with yarns and gentle wisdom.
Evenings were for cards - 500 and cribbage dealt with a grin,
sometimes a sly hand of poker,
where luck and friendship shared the table.
On twilight fairways at Hikurangi,
he walked ahead with steady steps,
a mentor´s patience in every swing,
teaching not just golf,
but the calm of taking life one shot at a time.
He spoke of cricket and rugby,
of fishing grounds and gardens in bloom,
of farming valleys and the long-remembered roads of Northland -
his stories mapping the land as much as his heart did.
In those last visits, when his strength began to soften,
his spirit did not -
his smile still warm, his laugh still bright,
his welcome always the same:
glad you´re here, how about a cuppa?
So may he now find the calmest waters,
reeling in the biggest catches beneath endless, gentle skies;
may he walk fair greens with every swing a sure-shot;
may the cards fall kindly in his hands,
and peace sit with him like an old friend.
Farewell, Lou -
thank you for the tides, the games, the lessons, the light.
Your stories travel with us still.

I am so sorry to read in the Herald this morning of Lynton´s passing. He was a very old friend of my late husband Ivan Bignell from their days in Papatoetoe and we visited him on many occasions when he had farms up north. He was a godfather to our elder son Michael and we often enjoyed games of golf with him at the Hikurangi club when we were holidaying near Matapouri Bay. The family has great memories of the fun times we spent together.
Our love to all his family. Jill.
