Albert DOWNEY Obituary

Downey, Albert Barrie (CBE). Barrie was born 27 January 1930. Passed away peacefully on 17 July 2025. Dearly loved husband of the late Mary Rose Downey. Loved father and father-in-law of Simon, Michael and Rhonda, Shane, Adrienne and Edmund, and Martin. Loving grandfather of Amy, Sam, David, Liam, Virginia, Gabrielle, Bernadette, Patrick, Timothy, Cameron, Joe, George, Hugo. Great grandfather of Thomas, Henry, Charlotte, James, Norah, Frances, and Oscar. Sincere gratitude to all staff at Eastcliffe Retirement Village who were involved in Barrie's care. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Joseph's Catholic Church, 16 Brenton Place, Orakei on Wednesday 23 July at 1pm. Followed by a private cremation. Limited parking available at the Church. Barrie was the life and soul of our music mornings at Eastcliffe, a lovely singing voice, always kind and full of humour, contributing stories, and never forgetting to request 'Rose of Tralee', because he had a beloved wife whose name was Mary Rose. We miss him very much, and wish we had known him for much longer.
