Hi Rongomai, Mereana and family - Gabrielle and I were saddened to hear the brave battle Wilkie put up came to an end last Friday. Unfortunately we will not be able to be with you tomorrow in Paeroa but will be thinking of you. I will always have the memory of when I was a 10 year old kid going to Te Aroha Domain in 1962 with Ron Hooper and my late sister Barbara to watch the Swamp Foxes play the Aussies and beat them 16 - 14. Little did I know that years later my brother would marry Alan's daughter and we would make the connection back to that day at a family gathering. A true gentleman and family man now at rest but not forgotten. Bruce & Gabrielle (Wellington).

WILKINSON, Alan. Wilky left us Friday 20th January 2023, closing the door on his life filled with love for his beautiful whanau, sports, driving and friendships across the motu. A warrior to the end, enduring the lasting effects of a stroke suffered in 2013, and although his ability to communicate was lost, the twinkle in his eyes and that gorgeous smile remained for all to see. He will be profoundly missed by his loving wife, Rongomai as her "happy chappy" rests peacefully now. Andrew and Mereana farewell a great man who was the sun and the moon to them. Samantha Janye with a "Y", James, Lincoln and Cassidy are lost for words as they think of life without Grandad. Bernard and Paris send all their love from offshore, laced with heartache, as they are not able to join us to see him off. Elias and Chanell will always cherish the loving memories that you bestowed during your time with them. Brent, Sylvia and whanau share their deep love and loss for our special man who was very witty and loving to all children in general. Grandad enjoyed relaying his sporting memories to us, a talented rugby player, basketball, cricket and golf were among his favourites codes. His love for truck driving and completing a good day's work was always his priority - we have never known a person who loved washing vehicles more than him, and his rugby boots and keys are forever hung up now. Moe koe te moe roa te moe Rangimarie i roto i nga ringa o Ihu Karaiti hoki ta matou Ariki, Haere, haere, haere atu ra, Okioki mo ake tonu atu xxx We love you Grandad - gone to tutu somewhere else now.
