An idol of mine since we both lived in State housng Park Ave Whangarei late 40s'. He was 11-12. Me 6-7! Our joint love of cricket endured though we met infrequently over ensuing years. Lost touch until finding this obituary today. I was so proud to introduce my son to Alan at a crkt tournament in Akld early nineties: we from Eastern Districts (Hawkes Bay) he with Northern Dist. A super man remembered for ever! Ken Gurney, Levin 1/2024

It is with a heavy heart that I pay tribute to my absolute favourite, inspirational, caring teacher, who came to me so clearly in a dream last night. To find that you have passed is very sad but knowing you inspired so many young people through your dedicated service, is a sign of an exceptional soul. As pupils of Raetihi Primary School 50+ years ago, we were truly blessed to have you in our school and community. Condolences to Karen, Douglas and all the family. With much love and respect - arohanui - Karen Morris (née Thomas).

As a student at Weymouth Primary in the mid-late 70s I have fond memories of Mr Whimp being a kind and fair headmaster. I have photos from a school gala with us wearing "I'm a Weymouth Whimple" t-shirts.

A great all-round bloke and valued member of the Raetihi Senior Rugby Team in the late 1960's and early 70's. It was a privilege to have known and played rugby alongside Whimpy back then. Our sincere condolences to the Whimp family. Garrick and Maureen Workman.
