I only met Alan once at the Barrell Inn in Howick last year however that was all it took a couple of hours to leave a lasting positive impression on me!
I had heard of him & all his antics, optimism, loyalty & sincerity through my family who had become good friends with him after meeting him on a cruise.
Alan filled the room with sunshine, laughter...devilment. I said to him "you look like your sitting there thinking of what naughty thing to say next" to which he laughed & said YES!
A true strong gentleman providing laughter & sunshine to others despite his own ongoing battle...never once apart from "a joking statement" would I have known he was unwell....the true "measure of a man"
I am sorry I wont be able to attend with my bright coloured shirt to learn more of your action packed life Alan as I am now back in Australia. I send my condolences to all your whanau & those who love you...you will be sadly missed & held in our memories. Arlene R
